Continuing its mission of “Breaking Down Barriers and Building Bridges,” the Fifth Street Block Club in Rochester’s northeast quadrant is giving back to the community in an important way with a special Back-to-School event.

On September 1 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Fourth Street and Peck Street Park, the organization will give away free backpacks filled with school supplies to students for the upcoming academic year. The community event will also hold an essay contest that will allow children a chance to win $250 for the purchase of school clothes. Other activities will include a bounce house, clowns, face painting, a reading circle and haircuts. The event’s sponsors include Antwan Enterprises, The Sanctuary Church, Rise Up, Rec on the Move and Above Average Barbershop.

Hope to see you there!
