Fifth Street Block Club’s Words of Hope Event Draws City Officials and Community Members

Fifth Street Block Club hosted its Building Bridges “Words of Hope” event at Peck Street Park in the city’s Marketview Heights neighborhood on Sunday, drawing a crowd of community supporters, including Rochester’s future mayor, Malik Evans.

“It’s important because it builds community cohesion, it brings people together, and it builds bridges to people all across the community, to say hey, we want to help this neighborhood. We want to support this neighborhood,” said Evans. “That’s what you see here today is something that’s important to me, which is stable neighborhoods.”

Organized by Fifth Street Block Club President Tunya Griffin, the gathering brought together people from all walks of life in the interest of creating stronger bonds and offering encouragement to members of the community during what is still a difficult time for many Rochester residents.

The event was covered by Channel 13 WHAM (ABC). Photos and videos of the event can be found on the Fifth Street Block Club Facebook Page.
