Rochester Public Market Event to Showcase Neighborhood Services to Community

The Fifth Street Block Club in northeast Rochester, in partnership with Councilman Michael Patterson and the Rochester Public Market, will hold a meet-and-greet community event on Wednesday, June 20, 2018, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., at the Public Market. Admission to the event is open to the public and free of charge.

The event, “Breaking Down Barriers and Building Bridges,” will allow residents in the northeast part of the city to learn more about the community resources available to them, while providing the opportunity for members of the community to meet the Mayor Lovely Warren, city council members, area legislators, the Commissioner of City Schools, police and fire personnel and the clergy, as well as local organizations and business owners.

“This is a community event designed to connect people who live, work and do business in the northeast part of the city with the many programs and resources available to them in Rochester. It will also serve as a platform for local agencies and businesses to reach out to the community,” said Tunya Griffin, block captain of the Fifth Street Block Club and a longtime community activist. “It’s a great way to bring the community together in a safe, family-friendly setting.”

In recent years, Rochester’s northeast neighborhoods, including Marketview Heights and Beechwood, have received millions of dollars on investment, thanks to the city’s Focused Investment Strategy, an anti-poverty initiative that has successfully reduced blight and crime in the previously neglected areas, attracting new businesses and community programs.
